About this course

The NSW liquor laws require responsible service of alcohol training for the liquor industry.

This means all licensees and staff associated with the serving of liquor must complete a government-approved RSA training course. Licensees and staff must understand their obligations in serving liquor responsibly and the types of strategies that can be implemented to add value to a venue?s operations. 

Who must complete the RSA course

  • Licencees
  • Approved managers
  • Staff, including promotional staff,
  • involved in the sale, supply and service of alcohol
  • Volunteers, including club directors, who have liquor or service of responsibilities
  • Security officers with crowd control duties.

What you will learn

 The training addresses the following key elements:

  1. Sell or serve alcohol responsibly.
  2. Assist customers to drink within appropriate limits.
  3. Assess alcohol-affected customers and identify those to whom sale or service must be refused.
  4. Refuse to provide alcohol. 
  • Performance criteria: detailed performance criteria are attached to each of these elements.
  • Skills and knowledge: there are essential and specific skills and knowledge required across a range of issues that are assessed as part of the course.

The outcome

 You will receive an interim certificate on behalf of the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Authority upon completion of the course. You will then need to apply for a photo competency card by producing the certificate and appropriate identification and having your photo taken at a participating Australia Post outlet.

Your details will be recorded on an online system that is linked to the Australian Government's licensing database.

Your identification card needs to be retained and a copy provided to the venue management, in accordance with government requirements.

 

Course fee: RSA - $130; Combined RSA/RCG - $200.
